ode to food

i don't know what it is but i really love going to the supermarket. even if i don't really need anything in particular i still enjoy strolling through the aisles. ever since i was a child, i got so excited to take trips there. of course as a tiny tot the supermarket is a glorious mecca for nummy treats and trying to sneak things into the cart without mom looking (which i still do, to this day) but anyway, last week on one of my frequent sojourns, as i was perusing the perimeter of the store i happened to pass by a huge display of peeps since easter is just around the corner. it got me thinking that it would be a delicious idea to make s'mores with peeps instead of regular marshmallows!
to my dismay as i was doing my google images search for the above illustration, i found that someone has already beaten me to this discovery!!! oh well.. i still think it will be fun and delicious to try making them.

tonight after dinner with a friend in the city, i finally got a chance to try the famous "red mango". i just happened to be passing through the neighborhood and my friend was a fro-yo virgin so we ventured inside. i forgot to mention pinkberry was right across the street! but since i like to go against the grain and since i think pinkberry is teh yuck, red mango was the obvious choice. the interior was very very clean and modern and RED. but onto the taste test which is the most important. the reason why i don't like pinkberry is because the yogurt is so icey. i like my yogurt to have a nice creamy texture which red mango's did. however i also like the yogurt to have the subtle tartness that regular yogurt has. red mango lost in this category. however, the fruit toppings were plentiful and it was amusing to see the over-achieving attendant flaying and fanning out my choice of banana over the swirl of yogurt. in conclusion i must say YOLATO STILL RULES SUPREME!

last but not least, bitnubz suggested that we take a trip out to the city this week to try out this great little cafe that she loves. cornershop is supposed to have the bestest corns ever. so i asked her if it was like the mexican corn that is showcased in one of my favoritest movies of all time, Nacho Libre.
it better be goooood bitna! hehehe

i needa job

soooo i've been unemployed for a good month or so. i discovered i am quite a flake when it comes to employment i must say... which doesn't say much for me but it has been a learning experience about myself. i've found that i am definitely not a desk job person. i actually would not mind a desk job if it were something fun and consistent. my last job i was able to surf the web hours at a time. to most this would seem like a dream job, but let me tell you it got old, FAST. there are many entertaining blogs to read, but i felt like i had read them all. monotony is not my friend.

the last job before i was at before that lasted for a pretty long time in my standards (about a year). i think this was possible because it dealed with fashion, and meeting/helping people. i am in the process of getting this job back but it involves someone getting fired so i can take that position back. poor guy haha. part of me is excited to go back but part of me also wishes i could do something else. i actually applied at a local cafe which i've been to a couple times. it really is a funky and quirky place and i always dreamed of creating beautiful coffee art masterpieces ever since i watched "coffee prince".it is a korean soap opera about a girl who pretends to be a boy to get a job as a barista at a cafe that only hires cute males. i know, it sounds shady, but what can i say? koreans like drama.

since it would be a part time, i'd have to find another side job. it got me thinking. i love dogs, and i don't mind engaging in physical activity since the weather is starting to get nicer. i could definitely use the exercise. i thought, "why not dog walking?!". silly me, why hadn't i thought of this sooner? i was clicking through craigslist again and found that there are a crapload of people advertising themselves as dog walkers/sitters. one person wrote that they were college educated with a degree in doggie cpr. w-t-f? ummmm 5 year olds can love dogs just as much as college graduates. too bad i didn't take that doggie cpr class in college... some said they could produce references on demand and some seekers asked for the walkers to be "bonded & insured". what the hell does that mean?!

also the subject of "how the heck do you get to the dog?" popped into my head. do these people give our their house keys to complete strangers? this dog walking stuff boggles my mind...
can anyone enlighten me on dog walking formalities?

blah di da

so i ended up going to the shelter today even though it was raining cats and dogs! (pun intended) and once i get there they tell me they've run out of volunteer forms and that i should come back to tomorrow.. UHhh lady it took me twice the time google maps said it would take me to get here because it's in the middle of nowhere and you want me to come back tomorrow to fill out a damn form?! i think not... i just feel bad for the doggies that will be put down this week. i hope the lack of forms was because so many people signed up to volunteer.

anyhoo, i trudged back through the rain to my car and went home.

BOREDOM. i had nothing to do when i got home so i decided to paint my nails again. i used to be a chronic nail biter like SERIOUSLY chronic for many moons but one day a couple years ago i just magically stopped. then i grew them really long. they were comparable to mr. edward johnny depp scissorhands. but then this whole dark polish craze came about and dark polish on long nails just looks scary and ridic like the bride of frankenstein so i've cut them short. i actually prefer short nails to long. same goes with my hair. but that's another story for another day. anyway, i've grown an obsession with this color called "berry hard" by essie. it's just the right shade of red. i don't like the total darkness like unkle karl's black satin but i think the dark red is very mature yet fun and not too emo. the pic makes them look a bit brown, but oh well.

all dogs go to heaven...?

i was perusing through craigslist today and i always like to go to the pet forums to see what cute and cuddly friends are up for adoption and whatnot. i've always liked animals since i was little but ever since i got tofu, i've become a huge dog lover. it's really sad to look at craigslist sometimes because there are so many pet owners who can no longer take care of their pets because of relocating or not being home enough for them. i wish i could adopt a few of them but my parents would have a cow -_-; but maybe i'll just bring one home to melt their hearts..heehee

one post in particular hit home for me

a volunteer at a shelter in jersey city was reaching out for volunteers to take the dogs on walks. sadly a few of the dogs there are up for euthanasia because they haven't been adopted and have overstayed their welcome at the shelter. supposedly if enough people volunteer to walk the dogs, it will help prevent them from being put down. i think tomorrow i will call them up to see if i can volunteer. it's heart breaking to think of these dogs, many of them coming from abusive owners or just being thrown into the shelter. alot of them are looked over because of old age or too much energy. hopefully we can lend a helping hand to our furry-pawed friends.

from the beginning.

so i've decided to do something more productive with my life starting today. i already feel so accomplished to have started this blog! i'm really bad at documenting things that require me to actually write stuff down, meaning i have about 10 journals with very little or no action going on in them. perhaps i'll dust one of them off one day...mmm baby steps mish, baby steps.

where shall we start? most of this will be my daily blabberings of nonsensical matters that pop into my head for the day, a pinch of musical balderdash finished with smatterings of rather random things that catch my eye or most of the time.. my taste buds. which brings us to the items du jour.

let me "simply remember a few of my favourite things" à la Julie Andrews in no particular order:

1) cherry coke zero

my preferred beverage, although sadly these babies are getting harder and harder to find! the stash i have now were found on a impromptu trip to target and i paid a whopping $4.99 for the pack! i am used to the 4/$10 supermarket sales.

now that i think about it, my ex introduced me to this delectable libation. at least something good came out of that relationship! moving right along.....

2) cape cod salt & vinegar chips

these are quite hard to find as well. i didn't know, but i suppose they are a fancy schmancy brand because these are not easy to find as well! they are not sold at my local supermarkets although they stock hundreds of other munchie brands. i guess with a price tag of $3.29 they are supposed to be a little more exclusive. anyway i think they are more than worth their price because the delightful flavor that they have is really awesome. i've tasted my fair share of salt & vinegar chips and i must say these are just spectacular. first of all, the chips are kettle cooked to crispy perfection. in the bags of other brands that claim they are "kettle cooked", i always find myself on a treasure hunt for the folded and misshapen chips because they are extra crunchy. not the case with cape cod's! also the salt and the vinegar flavors are just right. not TOO salty and not TOO vinegary. they are the baby bears of s&v chips (heehee). anyway this is way too long of a blurb for chips.. sorry sorry moving along-

3) paris baguette cake

ok i must say that this cake is a leeeetle overpriced at $33 a pop. However it is so extremely delicious! the frosting is light and airy whipped cream. the cake, a fluffy matcha with baked in morsels of berries. ahhh a party in my mouth! hurry up and get out to your local paris baguette pronounced, "pah-ree ba-gget" and pamper yourself!

4) tofu

although i do enjoy the edible white blocks, this is one thing on today's roll call that is NOT edible (depending on what country you live in) haha kidding kidding, i just had to sneak in a pic of my sweetie ;D

that was definitely enough for one post... until next time!

testing testing 1,2,3....

hello!
